My Wife, Lucia and I went on the river soar with Dave a few months ago. I was in a kayak while Lucia went in a canoe with Dave. Neither of us had any experience but we both had a great time. Dave struck the perfect balance, making sure we had fun while always feeling completely safe. His instructions were clear and both of us made quick improvement that made us want to stay out longer! I would highly recommend him!
Dave took me out for a first time kayaking experience in Newark. I had a great day learning the basics of kayak and paddle control. Dave's instructing was extremely helpful and offered clear guidance to help me improve throughout the day. I finished off with some weir surfing. A fantastic kayak experience. Cheers Dave!
I joined the Get Into kayaking scheme to try to meet new people and increase my confidence, whilst developing my kayak skills. I was very nervous but, I fast became friends with both the other students on the course and Dave, the coach instructing us. This eased my anxieties and helped me find my comfort zone. The kayaking course has been very enjoyable and very instructive. I learnt many skills that I didn’t know before and had fun doing it. I highly recommend this for students who have trouble coming out of their shell and dealing with things like anxiety and social anxiety as there are lots of opportunities to help your fellow students with peer coaching and you have a lot of fun doing it.
Over the past 6 weeks, I have taken part in the kayaking ‘Play for fun’ sessions offered by the University for those who are nervous to take part in activities with a lot of people. I have learnt many kayaking skills, such as going backwards, forwards, sideways, stopping and many more and have also enjoyed playing a bit of water polo and I am considering joining the Uni club in the new year. We had a great instructor and I have made friends with people in the years above me from another campus. Overall, I have had a great time, come out having learnt new skills in an activity I enjoy and made some great friends. I recommend it to anyone who has the opportunity to do these sessions in the future.
